In 1920, they set up a locale known as Tourist’s Rest, which consisted initially of several tent houses for tourists, and later a log lodge, several cabins, and a dance platform. This was the beginning of the Syretts’ long involvement in the tourist industry. In 1919, a group from Salt Lake City came to see Bryce Canyon, and the Syretts set up a camp for the visitors near Sunset Point. The Syretts followed Sudweeks’s advice and, upon arriving at Bryce Canyon, were stunned by what they saw, and began to invite their friends to come see the canyon. A rancher from Tropic, Claude Sudweeks, mentioned to the Syretts that they ought to take a trip to see Bryce Canyon. Likewise, as the train moves away from you, the sound waves are stretched, lowering the pitch of the whistle. As the train approaches, the sound waves that make up the whistle are compressed making the pitch higher than if the train was stationary. You have most likely experienced the "Doppler effect" around trains.Īs a train passes your location, you may have noticed the pitch in the train's whistle changing from high to low. This Doppler effect was named after the Austrian physicist, Christian Doppler, who discovered it. The phase of the returning signal typically changes based upon the motion of the raindrops (or bugs, dust, etc.). The ability to detect the "shift in the phase" of the pulse of energy makes NEXRAD a Doppler radar. Learn about the different scanning modes of the Radar here The remaining 59 minutes and 53 seconds are spent listening for any returned signals. When the time of all the pulses each hour are totaled (the time the radar is actually transmitting), the radar is "on" for about 7 seconds each hour. NEXRAD spends the vast amount of time "listening" for returning signals it sent. This process of emitting a signal, listening for any returned signal, then emitting the next signal, takes place very fast, up to around 1300 times each second! Computers analyze the strength of the returned pulse, time it took to travel to the object and back, and phase, or doppler shift of the pulse. This reflected signal is then received by the radar during its listening period. Note: it's a small fraction of the emitted energy that is scattered directly back toward the radar. If the energy strikes an object (rain drop, snowflake, hail, bug, bird, etc), the energy is scattered in all directions (blue). The radar emits a burst of energy (green in the animated image). NEXRAD (Next Generation Radar) obtains weather information (precipitation and wind) based upon returned energy. ![]() At the end of it all, I wanted people to see where she was going. Greg had a higher voice for the YouTube videos. My biggest dilemma was what to do with her voice. The biggest challenge was to be able to do this in a linear fashion. I did this really long interview with her that is the spine of the film that holds the film together. Where did you film her?īarbara: In L.A., Toronto, and New York. It’s such a timely message to be yourself and to find yourself and not let anyone obstruct it. It’s such a great attitude.īarbara: She wants to live her life the way she wants to live it. If more parents understood Dave’s perspective and if we have more people like him, they world would be a better place.īarabra: Communication is at the center of the film and she just tells it as it is.This is what I want, this is what I’m going to do, come with me or don’t get in my way. That was more important than hanging on to anything else. He was there for the big moments, giving her that sponge bath. He just wanted to be a good parent and to really see Gigi fulfilled and happy. I think that also he too didn’t fully understand what was happening. People would peep into the editing room and comment on how much they wanted him as a father. I spent so much time with them, and they really opened up to me. Also in the editing room, everybody just loved this family and David was loved. They have this pure love for each other, and they were ready to tell the story. You wanted to hug him by the end of that and say we need more people like him.īarbara: The Lazzarato story really moved me. I just really want that character to allow me to go on a journey with them and to be there for the things that they really care about and see them evolve as a full person.Īdam: For us, Gigi’s weekly videos give us a glimpse of her life, but this was a side of the story that she hadn’t shared. Many of the improvements incorporated into the ATC250R were evident in the 2nd generation ATC250R (1983 Big Red 250R). It was not until the mid-1980s that Honda diversified its product line to include utility-type machines for industrial and agricultural use. Together with the Big Red 250 and 250ES, the ATC250R was considered the holy grail of racing, created for recreation and competition. These attributes were not commonplace on other ATCs at the time. This racing machine introduced the market to a 248-/246-cc liquid-cooled powerplant, folding footpegs, and five and six-speed transmission options.
